From the Adriatic Sea to the Itria Valley is an 8-day, 7-night self-guided cycling tour in Puglia: a moderate loop that starts and ends in Monopoli and links the Adriatic coast with the Itria Valley. On the way you discover Polignano a Mare, Conversano, the Castellana Caves, the UNESCO-listed trulli of Alberobello, Locorotondo, Martina Franca and Ostuni, the White Town. The last day brings you back to the sea past the ruins of ancient Egnazia.

Monopoli
Arrive at your own pace in Monopoli, a lively coastal town whose narrow lanes wind around a charming old harbour. Visit the cathedral and treat yourself to dinner in one of its excellent seafood restaurants. Overnight in Monopoli.

Monopoli – Conversano

After the bike handover and route briefing you follow the coast to Polignano a Mare, perched on a 20-metre limestone cliff above the clear Adriatic and the birthplace of the singer Domenico Modugno. Next comes the tiny harbour of San Vito with its colourful boats, before the route turns inland to Conversano, with its Norman castle, the Romanesque church of San Benedetto and the cathedral. Overnight in Conversano.

Conversano – Alberobello

Country lanes lead to Castellana Grotte, famous for its underground caves shaped by stalactites and stalagmites (visits must be booked in advance). The route continues through Putignano and Noci to Alberobello, whose trulli – small dry-stone houses with conical roofs – have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Overnight in Alberobello.

A free day in Alberobello: stroll through the trulli districts, visit the Museo del Territorio to learn the town's history and taste the local specialities. If you would rather ride, an optional 40 km loop (+475 m) takes you deeper into the Itria Valley, to Locorotondo with its sweeping views and to Martina Franca with its intact historic centre, Baroque architecture and elegant palazzi. Overnight in Alberobello.

Alberobello – Pezze di Greco

Undulating country lanes lined with endless dry-stone walls lead to a long descent with panoramic views over the Adriatic coast and the fertile plain below. You pass Capitolo, Monopoli's beach resort, and reach Pezze di Greco, surrounded by fields of tomatoes and peppers. Overnight in Pezze di Greco.

An easy, flat ride takes you back to the coast and the colourful fishing village of Savelletri, perfect for an espresso or a seafood lunch. Just beyond lie the ruins of ancient Egnazia, crossed by a stretch of the Roman Via Traiana, before you return to Monopoli. Overnight in Monopoli.

How long is the tour and how much does it cost?
8 days and 7 nights, from €1,140 per person in the Economy category (B&Bs and 3* hotels, low season, double room). The Deluxe category with 4*/5* hotels starts at €1,575.
Where does the tour start and end, and how do I get there?
It starts and ends in Monopoli, on the Adriatic coast between Bari and Brindisi, so both airports are convenient. Airport transfers are not included but can be arranged on request.
How difficult is it and how many kilometres will I ride?
Moderate: 162 km over 4 riding days of 32–50 km, with up to 570 m of climbing, plus two optional loops of 40 and 52 km. The days are short but hilly, so regular cycling fitness helps.
When is the best time to go?
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are ideal, and the tour can be booked all year with low, mid and high season prices. From 1 to 24 August a supplement of €255 (Economy) or €505 (Deluxe) per person applies.
Which bikes are available? Can I ride an e-bike?
Yes. A touring or gravel bike is included, and you can switch to an e-bike for €160 or to a road bike for €75.
What is included in the price?
